One of Atlanta’s eastern most neighborhoods, Lake Claire residents enjoy easy access to Decatur, Candler Park, and Emory. The homes range from Victorian mansions with wrap around porches to recently built modern homes to sensible brick bungalows and everything in between.
There is in fact no lake in Lake Claire (the name derived from the intersection of Lakeshore and Claire drives), but the neighbors have maintained a sense of funky pride epitomized by the ironic title. You’ll often see residents touting bumper stickers and signs urging you to “Ski Lake Claire!” Though there is no lake, Lake Claire maintains a quirky and strong community-centric vibe with unique features like a land trust with an emu, the Frazier Center and accompanying gardens, a saltwater pool and Atlanta’s first co-housing community.
With heavily wooded streets, Lake Claire not only forms a border of the city but also straddles the line between urban and suburban. In the quiet of Lake Claire Park, you can forget you’re only a 15 minute drive from Downtown Atlanta.
