Anchored by the rolling, tree-covered hills of the neighborhood’s namesake 131-acre park, Grant Park is an Atlanta gem. One of the city’s oldest neighborhoods, with development beginning in the 1880s, much of the historic housing stock has been well-maintained, and it shows. Massive oaks shade an impressive array of Victorian homes, ranging from mansions to medium sized Queen Annes, to cottages and Craftsman bungalows.

In addition to the charm of the neighborhood’s distinctive brick sidewalks, Grant Park boasts a healthy local business community, predominantly composed of popular restaurants including Grant Central Pizza, Dakota Blue (“a neighborhood joint”) and a diverse strip of establishments lining the neighborhood’s northern edge on Memorial Ave, including Atlanta institutions Ria’s Bluebird Cafe and Six Feet Under. From April to October a weekly farmer’s market brings out a sizable portion of the community and occasionally animal calls can be heard emanating from Zoo Atlanta, well-nestled in the southern third of the park. Throughout the summer, the Grant Park pool promises relief from the heat.

With a MARTA rail station (King Memorial) just over a mile away, and easy access to both I-20 and the connector, Grant Park’s central location means it’s never too hard to access. A thriving neighborhood charter school and a recent complete renovation to the local Maynard Jackson High School makes the neighborhood more attractive to families than ever.

You won’t find much modern in Grant Park, and the neighborhood association understandably prefers it that way. Hanging on nearly every porch is the “Sunburst”, a unifying symbol for a community intent on celebrating its history and cherishing the craftsmanship of a bygone era.
